WHAT IS THE CARDIFF MODEL FOR VIOLENCE PREVENTION NATIONAL NETWORK?

Strengthening and Supporting Cardiff Model Translation in the U.S.

The Cardiff Model for Violence Prevention National Network (the “National Network”) provides a community for those in various stages of Cardiff Model implementation—including brand new sites getting started on implementing the Model, as well as seasoned sites with several years of experience in implementation—to convene, share best practices, and learn from each other as they progress in their translations of the Cardiff Model. Members join our bimonthly Network meetings to collaborate and support the needs of each site. The Network also facilitates expert presentations, trainings, panel discussions, technical assistance, and more. We welcome anyone interested in learning more about the Cardiff Model to explore our website and sign up for more information on the Cardiff Model National Network.

WHAT IS THE CARDIFF MODEL FOR VIOLENCE PREVENTION?

A Multi-Agency, Public Health Approach to Violence Prevention

The Cardiff Model for Violence Prevention (the “Cardiff Model”) is an avenue for communities to bolster knowledge on where violence is occurring and better inform violence prevention efforts by combining and mapping both hospital and police data on violent injuries. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, approximately 58% of US violent crime is not reported to law enforcement. This means cities and communities lack a complete understanding of where violence occurs, limiting the ability to develop and implement successful solutions. More than just an approach to map and understand violence, the Cardiff Model provides a straightforward framework for hospitals, law enforcement agencies, public health agencies, community groups, and others interested in violence prevention to work together and develop collaborative violence prevention strategies.
